Croydon boys do Mozart

Seven CMVC members sang in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem on Good Friday – April 21.  The performance, at St Mary’s church in Fetcham, near Leatherhead, was conducted by choir music director Roger Pinsent

The seven choir members – six pictured above, together with Roger (back row, centre) – were part of a 50-strong choir that Roger had assembled from a range of choirs, friends and friends of friends.  The choir had just two rehearsals, one of them on the afternoon of the concert.

The church was packed for the performance which was rapturously received.  At the nearby Bell pub, the CMVC boys commented on how exhilarating it had been to sing a classic piece from the choral canon.

Roger’s conducting was filmed as evaluation for the master’s degree in music he is taking at Surrey University. Roger was delighted with how the Croydon boys and the scratch choir had performed.

Following this triumph, choir members are now considering an invitation to perform Verdi’s Requiem with the Croydon Philharmonic Choir at Fairfield Halls on October 23.  Nine have shown a firm interest so far.  “It should be a blast,” one said.
