Richard retires!

JANUARY 14 2018: After 27 years with the choir, Richard Hoyle is retiring as CMVC's music director. This dramatic news was first made public at our Croydon Welsh Christmas concert, and has now been formally announced.

Richard joined the choir as pianist in 1991 and became music director in 2000.  By the time he leaves in July, he will have conducted 186 concerts.

Farewell to Darren

DECEMBER 16: The choir bade farewell to Darren Wilkins, assistant music director, pianist and flautist, and top tenor stalwart, at the choir social on Thursday.

Darren is leaving Croydon to take up a new teaching post job in Ascot in the New Year, and this was his last occasion at a choir function.   The choir made a presentation to Darren and thanked him further with a resounding ovation.

Star soloist fires choir

DECEMBER 10: The Croydon choir had a packed audience for its traditional Christmas concert with the Croydon Welsh on Saturday, and were further inspired by a stunning solo performance by pianist Seung Hye Park.

The choir was on top form as it sang to almost 200 people, presenting a selection from its current repertoire with aplomb and leading the audience in a collective rendition of popular carols. The choir was conducted by music director Richard Hoyle and accompanied by choir pianist Felipe Rodrigues.

Choir raises funds for cancer charity

DECEMBER 5:   Croydon Male Voice Choir staged the first of its two annual Whitgift Centre appearances on Sunday, raising money for the cancer charity SECHC.  The South East Cancer Help Centre, based in Purley, assists cancer patients with advice, support and practical help.

The centre first opened in 1983 and currently helps some 300 cancer patients, among them CMVC bass Peter Smith.

Choir shows out at Sandilands

OCTOBER 4: Our choir put on a splendid show at the Sandilands Club Open Day on Sunday, October 1.   The Sandilands club wanted to demonstrate its recent enormous improvements to local residents and to boost its social membership.

CMVC mounted a display near the entrance to the bar area, staged by John Ward Turner who erected an impressive array of photographs depicting recent concerts, tours and our musical personnel.  He was supported by Andrew Dadley who set up CD and DVD displays and an iPad showing the choir website.

Dream debut for our new pianist

SEPTEMBER 25: Pianist Felipe Rodrigues played his debut concert with the Croydon choir at Banstead United Reform Church on Saturday. The concert was the first of the new concert season and an audience approaching two hundred filled the auditorium to capacity.

Richard Hoyle, the choir’s music director, said: "Felipe, who has had little time to prepare for his debut, played brilliantly and with a great deal of confidence. The choir, feeling strongly supported by Felipe, sang with real focus and enjoyment.”
