AUTUMN CIRCUIT FOR WALKERS

The choir’s walkers enjoyed a relaxing five-mile circuit from Godstone on October 1. They started and finished at the Bell in Godstone and stopped en route at the Barley Mow in Tandridge. In between they crossed a mix of countryside, including farmland, pasturage, woods and parkland.

There were eight walkers in the group which left the Bell at 2.10pm. They headed west, then south past Garston Park, before picking up a mile-long eastward stretch of the Greensand Way. They pioneered a route across another mile of farmland where the path had been ploughed over and then spent a refreshing half-hour at the Barley Mow.

Another hour, including a further section of the Greensand Way, took them back to the Bell by 5.30pm, where they enjoyed a substantial gastro supper. The weather was warm for the time of year and the wildlife spot of the walk was a heron, seen near Garston Park.

The walkers were Phil Blewett, and his wife Sally, from the top tenors; Bob Mackay, Dick Jones and Trevor Watkins from the second tenors; Roger Lee from the baritones; and Peter Gillman and Steve Lloyd from the basses. Social member Ted Mouat (second tenor) joined the group at the Bell.
