CMVC singers swell Verdi choir

OCTOBER 1: A sizeable number of CMVC members will be singing in a performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the refurbished Fairfield Halls on Saturday October 26.The concert is being staged by the Croydon Philharmonic Choir and the CMVC contingent, a dozen strong, will help swell the choir to around 150 in all.   Some of the CMVC singers belong to both choirs; others are taking part as guests.

The Verdi Requiem is one of the great set pieces of the choral canon, with wonderful tunes and thrilling dramatic moments.  “It is a stupendous work,” says CMVC bass Peter Gillman.  “We are looking forward to the concert immensely.”

The concert orchestra will be the London Mozart Players, delighted at returning to their official home following the three-year closure of the Fairfield Halls.  Other local choirs have also provided guest singers.

The concert will benefit the South East Cancer Help Centre, the Purley-based charity which offers advice and support to cancer patients and their families.  CMVC has sung for the SECHC in the past.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15-£25 and are on sale from the Fairfield Box Office.
