New record in solstice heat
The choir walkers had a splendid summer solstice outing on Monday June 19, starting and finishing a six-mile walk at the appropriately named Ramblers Rest in Chipstead.

The walk also established a new record, with four women among the 11-strong group, a 36.36% proportion that is believed to be the highest ever recorded. The four were Lyn Mouat, Hazel Willson, Linda Taylor and Bronwen Roberts.
Despite the heat, estimated to have reached a high of 24C during the walk, the group sustained a steady pace, overcoming the regular ascents and descents without undue difficulty.

Half-time was taken at the Banstead Arms.
Once back at the Ramblers Rest, the group enjoyed a substantial supper, and then serenaded the assembled drinkers and diners with a selection from the B&D repertoire. One audience member was so impressed that he lodged a £50 note behind the bar for the group. The walkers gallantly passed it on to the pub staff as a tip.
Ten of the record-breaking group
The summer solstice walk, which took place just two days before the full solstice itself, has become a new group tradition to partner the winter solstice outing.
