Croydon boys sing "magnificent" Verdi

OCTOBER 26: A  strong contingent from CMVC took part in a thrilling concert on Saturday, when the Croydon Philharmonic Choir staged the Verdi Requiem at Fairfield Halls.

The CMVC singers helped swell the choir to 150 for a performance which won lavish praise from critics and audience.  Inside Croydon said the singing was “magnificent” and a leading classical critic compared it his best-ever performance of the Requiem in Rome in 1970, when Luciano Pavarotti took part.

OCTOBER 1: A sizeable number of CMVC members will be singing in a performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the refurbished Fairfield Halls on Saturday October 26.The concert is being staged by the Croydon Philharmonic Choir and the CMVC contingent, a dozen strong, will help swell the choir to around 150 in all.   Some of the CMVC singers belong to both choirs; others are taking part as guests.

OCTOBER 29: The choir enjoyed a splendid outing to Southwark on Saturday, when it mixed a one-hour performance at Southwark Cathedral with informal sings before and after the main event.

Choir presents £327 to Marie Curie charity

JULY 20: The choir has presented the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity with a cheque for £327, which it raised from singing in Caterham shopping mall four weeks before.

A tale of two choirs

JULY 15: The Croydon choir closed its 2018-19 season with a brilliant summer/patrons’ concert at Emmanuel Church, South Croydon, on Saturday.  Along with the CMVC’s three sets of songs, the enthusiastic audience was treated to a delightful contribution by the Surrey Fringe, the Guildford barbershop chorus whose director is Roger Pinsent – also music director to CMVC.

Choir pirates sing for cancer charity

JUNE 23: Over twenty choristers gathered in Caterham shopping mall yesterday to entertain Saturday morning shoppers as part of the annual Caterham Festival. The choir was again sharing the proceeds of the charity collection with Marie Curie Cancer Care, which has close links with Caterham and choir members.
