Moving Armistice concert in West Wickham

NOVEMBER 16: The Croydon choir staged a powerful and affecting concert commemorating the centenary of the First World War Armistice in West Wickham on Saturday.   It received a standing ovation and was widely praised for the strength of its singing and the emotions it aroused.

Choir delights in Rochester

OCTOBER 25: The Croydon choir had an exhilarating sing at Rochester Cathedral on Saturday, October 20.  It staged an hour-long performance, divided into three sets, that delighted a strong and appreciative audience, composed of cathedral visitors and the choir’s ever-loyal followers.

The choir’s twelve numbers comprised a mix of religious and secular, from Gwahhoddiad and Morte Criste  to Bring Him Home and the haunting Seal Lullaby.

Choir shines at Boxpark

SEPTEMBER 24: An impressive CMVC contingent delighted Croydon shoppers and lunchers at East Croydon Boxpark on Sunday. Choir members sang along to tracks from their recent recordings, including the brand-new CD Brothers, Sing On. They included several tracks from their Christmas Album, encouraging Croydon to start thinking about the upcoming festive season, when the choir CDs prove to be excellent Christmas presents!

New season, new MD, new pianist

SEPTEMBER 10:  CMVC kicked off the 2018-19 season on Thursday with a new music director and new pianist.

The new MD, Roger Pinsent, has joined the choir with a rich and varied cv - for full details, see Music Personnel.  He has taken over from Richard Hoyle who retired in June after 27 years with the choir.

Richard's farewell

JULY 9: Over an emotional weekend in Exeter, Richard Hoyle ­– after conducting his 186th concert – retired as music director of Croydon Male Voice Choir.  Richard gave a farewell speech in which he hailed the choir as “the most wonderful organisation I have ever been associated with – one that changed and enhanced my life”.

 Choir delights Caterham shoppers

JUNE 26: The Croydon choir delighted shoppers in Caterham on Saturday 23 June. They sang along to tracks from the choir’s latest CD, Brothers, Sing On!, together with a selection from earlier recordings.

In addition to buying CDs, shoppers at the Church Walk Shopping Centre donated generously to the bucket collection, whose proceeds were shared with Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity with long Caterham connections.
