Farewell, Nat

25 JUNE: The choir said goodbye to its pianist Nat Brawn on Thursday. Nat, who has been choir accompanist for three years, is leaving to take up a prestigious teaching job in China.

Choir chair Kim Ormond presented Nat with a book, The Musical Human, at the end of choir rehearsal at Sandilands.  Kim commented that Nat had been a great pianist and deputy music director and we had learned a great deal from both him and our music director, Roger Pinsent. “I’m not surprised that he has been snapped up for a great job in China. He will be greatly missed.”

Nat joined the choir in 2018, shortly after the appointment as MD of Roger Pinsent, who auditioned Nat for the post.  “I knew at once that there was no need to audition anyone else,” Roger said on Thursday.  Nat is heading to China to take up the post of Head of Music at the British School in Guangzhou.  He said:

Thursday’s outdoor rehearsal at Sandilands marked the first real-life rehearsal led by Roger Pinsent since the beginning of lockdown.  With Nat’s departure, it was an occasion of both joy and regret
