Choir parties in Caterham
Dave Bannister writes: Glorious sunshine and a thronged High Street greeted 25 choristers at the Caterham Street Party on Sunday June 1. The choir were part of hundreds of entertainments and stalls ranging from local crafts, drummers, various rock bands and tea dancing. Even choir top tenor Daffodil Dave and his partner Geranium Julie were plying their flowery wares opposite our stage.

For two hours CMVC demonstrated its versatility, ranging from Robbie Williams and Van Morrison to the Hallelujah Chorus and hymn Gwahoddiad (in Welsh). During breaks, top tenors Barryoke Farrant and Johnnyoke Aitkenhead delighted the crowds with selections from Elvis, Matt Monroe, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. A highlight was a celebratory Glad All Over which inspired Caterham’s Crystal Palace fans to wave flags and dance in ecstasy.

Afterwards many of the choir retired to the garden of the King and Queen pub, who had generously sponsored the afternoon performance. Naturally there was more singing, accompanied by youthful locals. as thirsts were slaked with excellent beer.
