Mayor's accolade for choir 

 

Magnificent at Winchester

The Croydon choir enjoyed a magnificent evening singing in a mass-choir concert at Winchester Cathedral on Saturday (November 15). The concert, featuring five male voice choirs, was in aid of the Prostate Cancer UK charity and the key-note speaker was former England cricket captain David Gower OBE.

In his speech, David referred to the notorious occasion when he buzzed an England match in Australia in a Tiger Moth in 1991 and was fined £1000 by the England management. Croydon MVC presented David with a copy of our CD Those Magnificent Men and he joked about this in his final speech. David also praised “the magnificent singing of these magnificent men in this magnificent venue”.

Della Jones becomes new choir president

Della JonesThe acclaimed Welsh mezzo soprano Della Jones is the new president of Croydon Male Voice Choir.  Della, who was born in south Wales and now lives in south Croydon, said she was "thrilled and honoured" to accept the choir's invitation to become its president. She added: "Coming from South Wales, I have a natural affinity for male voice choirs."

 

Croydon mayor thrills to concert

Mayor Avril Slipper and husband Harry at Sanderstead concert

Croydon's mayor, Councillor Avril Slipper, praised the Croydon choir when she attended its concert at the United Reformed Church, Sanderstead, on Saturday March 26.

Cllr Slipper said during the interval that the choir was "marvellous" and "wonderful".  She was particularly impressed by the choir's ability to learn and remember so many songs.

 

Choir wows Xmas shoppers

 

 

The Croydon choir sang for shoppers at the Whitgift Centre throughout the day on Sunday December 6.  The choir will return to the Whitgift Centre on Saturday December 19.

Choir sings at Westminster wedding

The Croydon choir sang at the Westminster wedding of Julia Weatherill, granddaughter of the late Commons speaker Lord Weatherill, on Saturday September 7.  Afterwards we received a letter of generous praise from the bride's father, Bernard Weatherill - extracts to be found below.

The wedding was held at St Margaret’s, Westminster, known as the parish church of the House of Commons. The Croydon choir sang Battle Hymn of the Republic, Benedictus, and Be Still My Soul – also known as the Finlandia Hymn.
