Coronavirus 2021

JANUARY 24 2021: Sadly, there is no prospect of the choir resuming performances any time soon.  However, we have been active both in and out of the remote rehearsal room.  We have been conducting online sectional rehearsals, via Zoom, almost since since Covid struck.  We have been adding new pieces to our repertoire and have been singing with our customary gusto.  Outside, the choir walking group continued with its outings for as long as permitted, as did the Beer and Ditties team.

Coronavirus

MARCH 17 2020.  We are very sorry to have to announce that the choir is suspending all its activities due to the coronavirus crisis.  We hope to resume in September, but meanwhile all the concerts we were planning over the next three months have been cancelled.  We are desperately sorry to have to come to this decision but feel we have no alternative in light of the government's advice, delivered yesterday.   It also means that we will have to cancel our annual tour, planned for Peterborough in May.

We will miss singing and rehearsing enormously.  We will miss our audiences too, but hope that we will be reunited before too long.  Meanwhile we wish all our members and followers good health and fortune over the coming months.

A jolly choir Christmas

DECEMBER 16 2019: The choir welcomed Christmas with a resoundingly successful concert for the Croydon Welsh Society on Saturday.  Performed at its customary venue of Shirley Methodist church, the concert ranged from familiar carols to more recent items in the choir’s repertoire, including a thrilling version of the Carly Simon anthem Let the River Run which was the final item in the concert and was sung for the first time.

Croydon boys sing "magnificent" Verdi

OCTOBER 26: A  strong contingent from CMVC took part in a thrilling concert on Saturday, when the Croydon Philharmonic Choir staged the Verdi Requiem at Fairfield Halls.

The CMVC singers helped swell the choir to 150 for a performance which won lavish praise from critics and audience.  Inside Croydon said the singing was “magnificent” and a leading classical critic compared it his best-ever performance of the Requiem in Rome in 1970, when Luciano Pavarotti took part.

CMVC singers swell Verdi choir

OCTOBER 1: A sizeable number of CMVC members will be singing in a performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the refurbished Fairfield Halls on Saturday October 26.The concert is being staged by the Croydon Philharmonic Choir and the CMVC contingent, a dozen strong, will help swell the choir to around 150 in all.   Some of the CMVC singers belong to both choirs; others are taking part as guests.
