A great choir Christmas - now for 2024!
January 1 2024: The choir enjoyed a busy Christmas. Its activities began with the choir’s traditional Christmas concert at St John’s Shirley on 9 December. It was an evening of firsts. Andrew Moore made his debut appearance with the choir, covering for regular conductor and fellow Northern Irishman Matthew Quinn who was called home for a family emergency.

They started in front of the historic Globe pub in Borough Market where a huge crowd soon gathered around, entranced by selection of songs included the dramatic Nessun Dorma. The choir moved on to the Golden Hinde where hats and a pirate flag were produced to accompany a couple of rollicking sea shanties.

The Sandilands Shanty Crew is an offshoot of Croydon Male Voice Choir, formed by nine members across the choir’s sections and named after the CMVC’s rehearsal base. They have been singing for around three years, after starting up during the Covid lockdown, and this was their biggest gig to date.
